New Herend porcelain exhibition “Art and Faith” at Győr Synagogue
2024. September 20.
The guests were welcomed by Dr. Eszter Lukács, Vice president of Széchenyi István University responsible for international and strategic relations, and Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd.
The masterpieces presented at the exhibition aim to appeal to people of all ages, pointed out CEO Dr. Attila Simon, who also highlighted the secret of the success of handcrafted products, as a result of which Herend has now overtaken its competitors to become the world’s leading porcelain manufactory. The exhibits connect the past and the future, Mór Fischer, who raised the Manufactory to international status, with the innovative product development of the present. The selected pieces are not only religious, everyday and ceremonial objects, but also reflect the Manufactory’s product development motto: “Strong roots, innovative shoots”.
The aim of the exhibition is to introduce the local community to the values, traditions and heritage of Herend porcelain, which have been preserved, treasured and passed on by the Herend creative community since the 19th century.
At the exhibition, you can see a table lavishly laid with Herend porcelain items in the “Mix & Match” style, with variations of the Victoria pattern, perhaps the most well-known in the world, faithfully reflecting the Manufactory’s innovative activities. In addition, a unique, large-scale porcelain work of art considered professional bravura is on display, an ornamental plate with a diameter of almost 1 meter, decorated with thousands of perforations. Openwork is a specific craft technique from Herend making the porcelain look like lace. Of course, the professional compilation of the exhibition was also adapted to the location, since we can choose from a free combination of 16,000 white forms and 4,000 decorations, so a Judaica collection has also been presented with several unique Seder bowls.
At the opening ceremony, students of the Faculty of Arts of Széchenyi István University studying music gave a performance.
