Vieux Herend
The first figurine of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory decorated with a feather-like scaled design was made in 1871. Back then, the famous Hungarian writer Mór Jókai received a rooster with this pattern. The scaled pattern soon became known worldwide as Herend’s specialty. A variety of different animal figurines became sought after collectors’ pieces. Recently, a wider range of colors appeared in addition to the original red and beside gold ornamentation, platinum accents has become more and more popular. It is almost impossible to imitate this pattern, as the narrow or widening scales can be applied to the uneven surfaces by hand painting only. The VH motif has also been applied on different dinnerware items.
